Brown Algae Question

Since this is a diatom or bacteria... what effect does tetracycline have on it?

it's diatoms not bacteria, all you'll do is nuke your bio filter.

Default Brown Algae Question

In a previous post, Maracyn was suggested as a Brown Algae control because it is a photosynthetic bacteria. They suggested that gram-negative meds would control it without harming the filter bacteria when gram-positive meds would. Maracyn is erythromycin... an antibiotic. I just don't know if tetracyclin is a gram-negative or -positive... and if it would have any effect on the Brown Algae.

You can wait it out, or use Oto's. Blue-Green Algae (BGA) IS a bacteria. Maracyn will not help with diatoms (brown algae), because it IS NOT a bacteria.
