Can someone answer a testing question as I may have added to much to the tank. I have a Lamotte test kit. I got a reading of 2ppm. The instructions read as follows:
"Record as Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3-N). To convert to nitrate (NO3), multiply result by 4.4. Record as ppm Nitrate". So do I have 2ppm Nitrate or 8.8ppm nitrate. If I do have 8.8, is this too much at this point? Thnaks, Ken |

You have 8.8ppm of nitrate. That lamotte kit tests Nitrogen, not Nitrate, which is why you have to convert it.
8.8 nitrates is almost perfect for a planted tank. Most shoot for 10ppm.

Thanks for your reply. Is it ok to hit the 8.8 over the course of 24 hours? Will it increase my algae even more? I must say that when I was adding smaller amounts at a time I couldn't even get a reading until I basically started adding 10ml at a time at .37ppm per ml. For three does of 7 ml I hadn't even gotten a reading.
What do you think. Thanks, Ken |
