2.5G High Tech "Simplicity"

I've had the itch yet again and snuck another tank into my 700sq ft house. This makes number 11 and hopefully we'll be moving soon so I can have an in home work desk again to showcase it better.

Went out and bought a 2.5G Deep Blue and de-rimmed it. This was by far the hardest part. Took over 2 hours as Deep Blue does an extremely well job of siliconing. One trick I learned that my gf actually thought of was to use hot water. This definitely helped with the process

Spray painted the back with black rubber waterproof paint and filled it with a light bottom layer of Laterite and capped it with Activ-Flora.

Attached the Fluval Nano LED, ZooMed 501 Canister Filter, Ista 45G co2, and a Deep Blue Heat Stick.

Washed out the gel from the dwarf hair grass I purchased at PetSmart (great buy).

Placed the tank in it's little cubby, filled it, and did a co2 test.

The next morning:

Overall I'm very happy how this nice this came out. I'm going for a very simple look and so far have achieved it. I plan to get the grass to carpet the whole tank then add a small moss tree or two. This tank once established, will be used to breed shrimp most likely. I'll be posting updates every week to keep track of it's progress.

Thanks for looking

Week 5

Starting new fert dosing this week and feel I might have overdosed a tad as algae is starting to become visible. I've put a few ramshorn snails to help keep it at bay a little and breed for food for my puffer. Will be putting in some shrimps in a week or so hopefully once the fry get a little bigger. Will be sure to update next Sunday.

Looks great so far! I like the grass look. Will you toss in some rocks or no?

Maybe one small one, we'll see. Going to get the grass carpeted first. Prob add a moss tree sooner than any rocks or such. Going to keep it simple, for now at least

LFS had some ghost shrimp on sale so figured I'd get some for my congo puffer. Checked the tank and looks like it's cycled so threw them in there for a temp home. Starting to see some more new runners and some taller growth. Had a little algae the other day and did my first glass scrape but other than that it seems very self sufficient thus far.

Thanks, slowly but surely seeing growth. I think I've finally found a perfect amount of co2, light, and ferts to avoid algae almost all together with only minimal compromise to growth.

I remember seeing a tank on these forums months ago of a 10 gallon that had a bunch of overgrown DHG that looked amazing, hope it does well for you as well! Will be excited to see it take off.

Thanks, Going to give it another few weeks and start using it to bread shrimp. Not sure what kind I'll do but might just end up trying to get a PFR line going. I have some RCS mixed with sakura and PFR so might try and get a few dark ones in there.
