Algae Grower

I would really like to add 4 to 6 Micro Swords to my tank this weekend. I just put down 60 lbs. of Eco-Complete and I'm ready to get started.
Unfortunately 1 of my 2 40w bulbs went out last night in my Custom Sealife PC and it just happened to be the 10K daylight. I have a free replacement on its way, should be here middle of next week. Right now I am just running the 40w Ultra-Actinic bulb 10 hours per day. Can I go ahead adding the Micro Sword or would it be better to wait? And would you recommend I remove the Ultra-Actinic and replace it with something else? If so, what? Or will that and the 10K daylight bulb work out good for a medium to heavly planted tank with fish. Thanks.

Are these real?

Go ahead and plant them. I would not worry about plants being under suboptimal lighting for a few days. They are often harder than we think! I would get the actinic light switched out though, not very useful for plants.

Yep, definitely pull that actinic bulb out of there. One of the lessons that I learned from keeping that actinic in there (switched from SW back to FW) is that it grows lots and lots of staghorn algae. I have since switched over to dual 32W 6700K bulbs and have been very happy with them. The staghorn went away within the week and the plants looked much better.
