I have an eclipse3 which has the same front to back dimension but is six inches longer than the eclipse2. In addition to the two standard bulbs I added a 55 watt power compact fluorescent from ahsupply.com. To keep it above the tank I bought an all glass aquarium lid $15-20 dollars and put one piece of the lit on the tank in-between the eclipse light and filter. Then I set the bulb and reflector on top of it. It required no modification of the eclipse and it brings light towards the back of the tank (which eclipses usually lack). The 55 pc fluorescent with fit on your tank also. I haven't had any heat issues yet, but in the summer I may have to install vents or maybe even a small fan.

That is a good point because on my eclipse six the water would overflow from the side of the filter box. Does your eclipse 2 overflow the filter chamber? On my setup the bulb's end cap is on the far right of the tank and the water would spill over on the center-left side also you can move it slightly away from the filter making it unlikely much if any overflow would go onto the glass. I'm sure there is some small risk with my setup, but I feel comfortable with it.
