Growing Hc (without CO2)


Hey guys,
Just wondering what ill need to dose in specific to grow a nice carpet of hc without co2.

Would it be possible to grow hc only with excel alone???

Its possible, but many people have trouble growing HC even with CO2. You'll need healthy stock to start with, best if already acclimatized to suit your tank parameters, because there is no CO2 to help the plants react to drastic environment changes. Good lighting, flow, nutrients the usual stuff. It'll grow but takes a longer time to carpet, all the while you'd be managing algae issues without CO2 help.

Dry start will be the only decent way to establish it in a a non CO2 tank.

See Diana Walstad's article on the subject. Also, do not plan for any other plant species, maybe some floating species, but not much.
