stock bulb swap?

i just got a Single Satellite 20 inch 1X40W for my 10 gallon. form what i've read on here most people switch out the stock bulb for a new one. i told the guy at my LFS that i wanted to get a new bulb for it and he looked at me like i had 2 heads. He told me that there would be more than enough light with the bulb that it comes with and to save my money.
the stock bulb is very blue which i don't mind much but shouldn't it be white?
so my question is what would you guys do? i don't wanna have this sweet new light and only get half the light i can get out of it.

Typically,

The light that came with the satellite was probably a 50-50 actinide/6700 K. The actinide bulb is the one that looks really blue, it is mostly used in reef aquaria.

There is some debate about whether plants can use the actinide spectrum for photosynthesis. I am not sure of it anyway. I replace all my 50-50 bulbs with 6700/10000K.

You can buy these online at Hellolights.com

Do make sure the pin (square or straight) arrangement matches the one on the fixture you have.

Good luck,
~WW

I don't think hellolight carries the 40 watt bulbs that the Satellite fixture uses.

Hellolights doesn't.

Aquarium Equipment and Supplies - Aqua Buys has cheap bulbs. 4-pin square, 40w daylight 6700K/10000K bulbs.

Rx.. oopsie, looks like you are right!

This link might be of use... Aquarium Lighting: Current Compact Fluorescent Square Pin Bulbs

The Daylight bulbs are the ones that I have used (though I had the 32W).

ok cool i was reading up more on this subject and found that half the bulb doesn't even help plants! i dont know why the guy at the LFS told me i didn't need to swap bulbs. the reason i got the light was for the 40 watts not 20 that im getting now. looks like im stopping somewhere on my way home from work =]
