Cool

Having problem finding lighting.

I have a 45 gallon corner tank, it is shaped like home plate, or a diamond. Started building the hood for it, but have yet to come up with an answer on how to sufficiently light it. I will need 90 watts at about 5000k,but the problem is finding a ballast that will support 3 bulbs or more. Any ideas, or good website i can find these things? The Dimensions of the tank ...on the lid are 23,23,9,9,21 inches respectivley if that makes any sense.
Much appreiated.

No, the dimensions don't make sense...at least to me. =P

You'll need about 90 watts...and at that, you'll need CO2 and fertilizers too (well, most likely). I'd consider half 6700K bulbs and half 1000K bulbs if you have more than one bulb. 5000K will give you a very yellow color.

Draw a rough picture in MSPaint and host it on PhotoBucket. You could try a AHSupply retrofit kit, but I'm not sure if enough bulbs will fit for decent lighting. I think people with corner and bowfront tanks sometimes go with MH pendants.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

You nub, epic mentioned AHsupply. I hadn't thought about that place. I've been searching Hellolights.com for you but I can't come up with anything.

epic, we must have good water because I can grow HC at our house with no CO2 and 118W over a 55gal tank.

The HC is doing just fine since I cleared the unbelievable amount of plants that were growing above it, shadowing it from the lights.

Have not figured out the lighting yet actually no. We are working with a rather difficult size here that pretty much requires the use of PC lighting.

Here is a diagram of the tank dimensions.

I am using a Metal Halide pendent light fixture for my 54 gallon corner. It is quite difficult to find a PC fixture that will fit into the corner tank and also provides sufficient lighting. I did some research and ended up with MH pendent.

well "IRock" those measurments are a little bit off the two rear sides would be more like 24" but besides that yes thats what were looking for. Thanks for the info Treasure much appreciated.

Also "Irock" i stole the HC out of your tank and my bait minnows ate it like I eat coleslaw at Long John Silver. I also wanted to see who could win in a fight between your puffer's and "Boss Hog" (the bigger of my two bait minnows) sadly I got hungry on the 10 foot walk to my room and ate them.

Depending on the exact dimensions, the best way to do this with PC lights would be:

But for that kinda money, a 70w retrofit MH pendant + custom canopy would be just as feasible.

I recommend the 55w kit and then a 13w kit. 68 watts over your 34 gallon tank.

Or you could even have 2x13w. Or the 36w....just depends on what you want to keep and if you'll have CO2.
