Well I am finally setting up a 10 gallon quarantine tank. I don't want to have the tank set up all the time. I would like to get some ideas as to what kind of filter I should use. I am leaning toward a sponge filter since I can put the sponge in my canister filter on my large tank (and it might be a breeding tank for Pearl Gouramis ). Any thoughts?

Sponge or HOB, I use both. Sponge is easier to clean out, by boiling you can be certain to rid it of anything -- just don't boil the standing tube if it is the air pump kind, that will melt! (been there, done that)

Best to not have it full of water, as nature does not favor an empty tank! It will aquire fish then you won't have a Q tank anymore.
