having problem IDing plants at lfs
All the lfs around here either only carry high lighting plants or don't provide any idenification as to what plants they are called and what their lighting requirements are. I'm, by no means, an experts in idenifying plants. When I go into the store I see lots of plants I like but don't know if they'll survive because they label all of their plants "assorted plants" or "potted plants" no other info. I don't even know what I'd be buying. The employees know even less about the plants than I do. Is there a method any of you used, before you knew how to id plants, of how to tell what you were buying would be good in your tank? Looking up pictures of the plants I want doesn't help me much. I go to the store and they all end up looking the same. Around here the selection is very VERY slim also. I have yet to find java moss at any lfs around here. When I pick out a list of plants I want I almost very find them.

I usually look through the plant guides and try to match them or just buy them if they are nice and figure them out later.
I have internet on my phone so it helps |

I agree with cornhusker on where to get your plants and to go to the plant database. You can also google a image. Knowledge yourself. You need to be careful when buying from lfs, not all plants they sell a truly aquatic(hints no markers). |

TigerLilly, are you in west michigan somewhere? I could point you to a few LFS who know thier plants.
I'd agree, though -- If you are just getting started and want some low-tech plants, look in the swap n' shop.
