Has anyone seen or made a set of DIY Quick Disconnects for a canister filter (intake and return tubes).
I am planning on placing my Fluval 103 on my tank to both increase media quantity and to also supply the UV... anyway I am using all new hoses as I no longer have the hoses and stuff from years past for this filter... now my 403 has nice little disconnects for removing the filter without draining gallons of water all over the place - I could order a set from Hagen for the 103 but in all seriousness it would be just as well to replace the filter:-)

yeah there should be something like that, maybe look at motorbike hose connectors, I think thats what is used for computer mods often.

Aftica, you certainly are ambitious!
By the time you come up with a design, buy the parts, build it and test it, it might be cheaper to buy the Quick Disconnects. I would always be worried that they would fail! I can imagine myself out to dinner, wondering if the Quick Disconnects are leaking!!! Mike

ACK! Garden Hose attachments!
Seriously... how water tight do you find them? I mean... it's ok if a drop or 2 gets out in the garden but under a fish tank is an entirely different matter... I would be scared of slow leaking... be at dinner like mike and afraid when I come home I will need a Canoe to get to my bed!

LOL the yellow ones were not used. The orange and black ones worked fine and never leak. I have a buddy that still uses them today its been about a year and no problems. I dont know what size hose the Fluval 103 has but these work fine on a magnum. If they didnt i would be wifeless and tankless

I never had an issue with my quick disconnects on my Magnum 350. The only issue I had was how quickly it needed to be cleaned!

what a pain to have to disconnect your hoses! My Rena Filstar doesn't need that...you just power off, lift a lever, and the top comes off along with the hoses. Then you just move the bottom out and clean, etc.
yet again i'm glad i went with filstar over fluval.

I really like the Eheim disconnects, because each side of the disconnect also has a ball valve. You can only spill a teaspoon of water or so when you disconnect, and the hoses stay filled for the most part.

FWIW,
Nelson makes a nice blister pack of assorted quick releases designed for garden hoses. I have been using them successfully for years w/o a problem. Note; they have an o-ring, so dripping while a possibility is unlikely. Melnor makes some as well, as does a norwegian co witha name similar to Hagen [ but not called Hagen] Better garden centers are the best bet, while the HOme Despot and their ilk also sell some. My next purchase will be a Filstar so I can eliminate some of my own plumbing.
