GBR's With Ich?

I know they're highly sensitive fish in general, but I did notice a few small "salt-like" specs on one of the pair, and those same specs are now on one of my Harlequin Rasporas. The other GBR looks like it has almost an exposed gill just one that's kinda puffy looking (I'll get some photos later), and is "flicking" against rocks and plants. Both are eating just fine, however, and are otherwise OK.

I'm thinking it's probably Ich, so I've raised the tank temp to 85F and have begun every-other-day water changes of about 20%. Should I be doing more? Daily changes, or perhaps 50% every other day?

I'll keep the tank temp at 85F for the next week or two and hope it's enough to allow them to bounce back, but I'd like to avoid medicines if possible.

Tank readings as of yesterday:

ph 6.8, nitrate 0, nitrite 0.25 PPM, Amonia 0

Today (tonight) would/will be the next every-other-day change.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Raise the temp to 86. 85 is borderline as to whether or not it'll work.

Also change the water every day if possible. At 86 most strains can't reproduce and die off in a few days so you should be vacuuming as much of the gravel as possible. I don't know about 50% water changes 20-25% would be fine just make sure you are cleaning out the gravel with the water change. It should all clear up within a week but keep the temp up at 86 for another week just to be safe and after the first week you can change the water every other day or so. Ich is really easy to beat in some fish such as Ram's as they can tolerate higher temps quite well. Doesn't phase them at all.

It's a sand tank, but the same should still apply, yes? If so, I can just up this to daily 20-25% changes and rake the sand a bit each time.

These aren't the best photos, but both are hiding toward the back of the tank and under cover and won't come out right now. I don't wanna scare them out or stress them anymore.

This is the one with the "salt" specs I'm pretty sure is Ich:

And the other with the issue with her gill:

Your vacuuming the gravel to suck up and remove any of the dead/dying little guys that have dropped down into the sand/gravel and 20-25% is fine as long as you clean as much of the gravel as possible. If the tank is somewhat new and not very established and you do large water changes it could affect the bacteria and you could have an ammonia issue.

Tank isn't new. Been in place for at least six months.
