I believe it might be the light, and the camera ability of the Picture taker. I will try to post better ones, in a day. My camera is recharging. I will scoop a Blue Velvet and one of the new guys in the same glass so you can see a comparison.

Any updates on these? I'd like to give this a shot also. I have both blue velvets and blue pearls in separate tanks and I want to see how the cross came out

I had a recent outbreak of some type of Bacterial infection, it wiped out the entire colony. I tried treating for a couple of weeks, they all passed. I am sorry. I still have my pearls breeding up a storm, but All the velvets died out and the crosses did. I might try again in winter (thanks for the encouragement Soothing), they we're REALLY looking good. The babies were a nice blue. I am sorry everyone.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I have three tanks right now but I don't have room for another tank. Do you think it would be a good idea to throw in some blue pearls into a blue velvet tank? I can throw the culls into another tank but are the offspring really darker than the blue velvets? Again I'm really sorry about your loss. I can't imagine having an entire colony being wiped out.

They were darker than the Blue Rilis That I have seen in person. I would do a marina Breeder box, and mix some. Then see what you get. That is my plan when I get, to sorting everything out.

Oceangirl, no need to be sorry about losing shrimp, we're the ones who are sorry for you! Good luck with your blue shrimp in the future.

I was always suspected the blue Rili may have been created with pearls from the beginning ..
The creation of pearls was from a German breeder that work to get this color for 6 years !
The blue Rili came too fast to be created from scratch .. I dont know..
if anyone have more information on how they was created ill be glad to know ..
anyway sorry for your lost keep your head up and start over

Thank you everyone. It was very hard to lose this strain. I had hopes for it.
I do know blue rilis(Blue Velvets) came from selectively bred Rilis. Rilis are from cherries, so pretty much its related to the cherry.

If you cross a cherry with blue pearl you'll get a wild variant of a cherry shrimp, brown coloration with white specks. Blue velvet/ blue rili seems to be an exception.
