Hello From Las Vegas

Hello everyone. I'm happy to have found this site. I'm amazed at all the information and knowledge that's here.

I'm sort of a newbie. I have had fish tanks in the past, both fresh water and salt. However I haven't been in the hobby for probably going on 20 years now. My last tank was a salt water fish only set up back in the early and mid 90's, nothing since then.

I have never had live plants in a tank, and I'm now thinking about setting up another tank but with plants this time. I'm looking forward to learning an awful lot from everyone.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have always preferred the lush look of a planted freshwater tank.

I have seen some really nice SW set ups, but most seem skeletal and a bit barren.

Yes that can be true. The fish look great compared to most fresh water fish. But to get the rest of the tank to 'blossom' really takes a lot. I'm sure things have changed in the past 20 years or so to make things a bit easier.

I have to say that looking at some fresh water tanks today with all those plants really look great. I'm reading and learning a lot.

Thanks GMYukonon24s!

Yes I've been reading and learning and re-learning things I once knew but have long since forgotten lol. I'm kind of a bit overwhelmed with info, but am enjoying the process. I want to jump in and get a tank going, but I know it's better to slow down learn and get it right from the start. It's very difficult to make changes once your all set up.

Hey there Vermino, thanks!

Cool another Las Vegan. I'm actually pretty new to the Vegas area, especially when it comes to aquarium supplies. I've been to a few places around the area, and there doesn't seem be a decent place around here. At least not the places I've been to so far. I'm going by memory from a while back, but I remember much better places back on the east coast when I lived there. Are there any nice places where you buy your supplies?

I definitely buy from users on here most of the time (or online) but yea, most LPS in vegas are on the north-east to south-east side of town. (trop aquariums and blue reef aquariums). Petsmart is your next best bet but nothing like what people have on here. There is also a las vegas group of aquatics here.
