My family may be relocating to the Philadelphia area. Pro's / Con's of the area?

Hi everyone,

I just learned that my family may be relocating to the Philadelphia area in the next few months and I've never been there before. Just wanted to find out some pro's and con's of the area, both aquarium and non-aquarium related. We're from the great city of Chicago, IL in case anyone is familiar with it to use for a comparison.

Thanks for any info.

I grew up in Chicago and have lived all over the country since moving away. It's all the same, just different places and faces. If you grew up in the city then its no different from any other major city and the living experience is the same. At least if you lived in philly then you can get legit philly steaks!!!

It all depends on where you live and work. Traffic is bad going into the city in the morning and leaving in the evening. Suburbs are usually quiet. Not much different from Chicago except for the politics. I'll let you decide that on your own. As for local stores there are a few outside the city and over in New Jersey, most within an hours drive.

Aquarium Center in New jersey is a great shop, good selection of fish and dry goods. Msjinkzd is another awesome seller that is in PA about 1 hour and 30 min drive depending on where in philly you are moving too. Philly itself is a great city with a bunch of stuff you can do, art museum and concerts depends on what you are into and where you are moving to. Good luck

When you get to Philly go to Tony Lukes and order a Roast Pork Italian with broccoli rabe. You will never want to leave Philly. What area are you possibly moving to? I live about 45 min west of Philly

If the move actually happens it will be to the Ft. Washington area. I may or may not actually move with them. I've got a soft spot in my heart for Chicago, so I'll have to wait and see what I think of the area when I make a visit out there soon. It's nice that there is proximity to other major cities when living in Philadelphia, but my only real exposure to the east coast is from when I was stationed at Ft. Meade in MD, between DC and Baltimore, and I really wasn't crazy about that area, so I hope Philadelphia is different.

Fort Washington seems like a nice suburb. I live in Center City and I'm near everything so that is good. I commute to Delaware every day.

One of the big advantages of Philadelphia is that your an easy day trip to New York City, Atlantic City and the rest of the NJ shore, Baltimore, or Washington DC.
