Moving SJ to SF, CRS RO to Tap?

Hey everyone! I am moving back home to san francisco from San Jose. I use tap for my nano cube and RO for my 20 long CRS tank. I heard that SF water is so pure that it is basically RO out of tap.

now my question is: when I move back home, instead of using RO from the store, can I use tap in my CRS tank?

If thats the case, would I be able to put my CRS in my nano cube since I will be using tap for both?

Please chime in if you keep CRS in the city. thanks!

SF water is nice. It comes from Hetch Hetchy. I'm from SJ too, but I'm sure people have been able to keep CRS in SF tap. You can test on a couple before doing a full tap switch.

from what it shows on:
http://www.sfwater.org/index.aspx?page=634

it looks like SF and some SJ is getting the same water:

I keep all my tanks in tap water right now. I'm in the area that is fed by Hetch Hetchy but I think it's mixed with water from the other reservoirs by me. The KH usually is about 1-3 and GH not far behind it. PH for me is 7.2 ish but it drops when I let the water sit. I'm about 10 minutes outside SF so the water in the heart of the city may be different.

I live on the edge of San Francisco near Daly City and I've kept CRS in tap water for quite some time. I have not had any problems with my tap water but don't take that as a guarantee everything will be fine, you should test the water when you move to your new location.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

I live in ssf off of Westborough and 280. For the two that kept crs in tap... How are your shrimp? Breeding and striving? Do you just use tap, prime, and mineralizers? For my crs I just use Ro and mineralizer.

That's right near where I am, one exit down from you. I keep CRS in tap and right now have 3 berried. I just use tap and prime. They survive well and they are breeding too. It's a bit slow but I just started using IAL to drop the pH a little and that has been great.

They are breeding and thriving. I've had them for about 8 months and they have not stopped breeding. I mainly use tap and prime but I recently started adding prime and minerals to the tap.

sounds good. This would be awesome to combine my CRS tank with my main planted tank. but I guess I should do everything slowly and see how they hold up.

thanks for the replies!

do you have a tds pen? I'll assume you do, anyways, i tested my tap water at my house (i live in the sunset in sf) which i think is filtered a little, the TDS was 95. So your water at home should be fine, just keep what you're doing and remineralize. As long as you're keeping the parameters the same during water changes, the shrimp should be ok. i have a friend who doesnt even remineralize and just does top offs who says their shrimp do fine as well.

I just noticed my water parameter from tap changed compare to 2 months ago.
KH dropped from 4 to 2, GH and pH seems unchanged. Not sure about other parameters...

Might want to join sfbaaps since you are moving to the area - LOTS of shrimp keepers and planted tank folks in the Bay!

It's a great group! I've learned a lot from them, and they are really nice folks!
