DIY Tank

so I work construction and i happened to run into our glass guy when i was about to leave today and we got into the conversation of aquariums. He told me he could pretty much make me any nano tank free of charge or larger tanks for just the cost of laminating the glass to withstand higher pressures. That being said i have pretty much have endless possibilities with designing a tank outside the normal "Long and Tall" tanks.

you guys have any cool ideas?

Do some research on using laminated glass. You'll find lots of conflicting information. Some people will tell you its not possible because eventually the water will force itself between the glass panes. I've also been told that laminated glass isn't any stronger than full thickness float glass. It just has the added safety factor of holding together in the event of a break.

I spoke to a large aquarium builder in seattle and they use thick laminated glass for viewing windows in public aquariums. Not sure if it was for the safety factor or strength. They wouldn't go into details....

I say try it and see what happens. I've been very interested in using laminated glass to build a large aquarium, but never pulled the trigger due to such conflicting information.
