Newbie question

Hey guys! I'm pretty new to the planted tank hobby. I want to upgrade and just bought a 49 gallon. What do you guys recommend for wpg? I've seen anywhere from 2-4.5 so I'm not quite sure where to start. I would like to attempt some sort of ground cover (I was mainly looking at glosso) and heard that it's somewhat difficult and that it either grows up or out depending on lighting conditions. Does anyone have experience with glosso that would have any suggestions for me? I really appreciate it! Thanks - Lindsay

Hiya.

do you plan to set up CO2? I'm not sure about what would be the best amount of light, but i know you will definently need CO2 for anything around that much lighting.

I do intend to use CO2. I will be using two CO2 Natural Plant Systems.

I would say shoot for around 3.. as long as you have consistent co2 and ferts, you should have really wonderful growth with that kinda lighting.

watts per gallon really depends on what type of plants u will be going with. plants will usually grow straight up when not enough watts are being used (unless of course they are meant to grow straight up). in general i agree with what hugghitt said. 3 wpg is a decent amount of light. good luck!!
