How long has everyone been into the hobby?

Just a friendly poll! I personally have been into planted tanks for around 4 years now. And have had tanks for a long time!

Right at 30 years. Started with a 10G that had bright yellow gravel and a bubbling treasure chest. I've gone through many cycles, have over forty tanks at one time in the late 70's, had a saltwater phase that lasted about 10 years, then a cichlid phase, finally the lastest phase and in my estimation the most difficult, planted tanks...about 7-8 years with the last 3-4 being much more serious.

I hear you on that, Steve! It seems I've tried just about every type of aquarium but the planted tank has been the most challenging and consquently, the most rewarding. I would like to start another reef tank, but aside from cost, the biggest downside to reef tanks is the small margin for error. I'd like to try a deep living sand bed reef with a refugium and no skimmer, though. I know a few people who are having fantastic success with that method and require very little maintenence.

I've been in hobby almost 8 months to the day, and have been planting tanks for the last 4.. Guess, I kinda missed a few steps huh? lol Plastic plants really bother me, since april, all my new tanks, go straight top plants. Maybe not totally, but, always some foilage in there.. Planning a reef right now... Uugh, lol

I fell in love with fishkeeping when I was 2-3 years old. I remember feeding our Oscars feeder goldfish.
