Flourite (not black sand) for ground cover ?

Getting some ground cover plants very soon and looking to add some substrate to aid in planting them (and having them stay put). Currently I have flourite & Eco-complete (about 5.5yrs though) all topped with several inches now of river pebbles (both small & large). You can see my tank here. I'll be adding the ground cover plants to the middle & front areas.

I obviously will not be able to successfully grow most ground covering plants in the mass of river pebbles and black substrate colors would clash. I was hoping the flourite (not black) would provide a complementing color will mainly holding down the finer plants for ground cover.

Anyone have success for ground cover using flourite ?

I'm heading out to the store around noon today (EST) on my lunch break and would like any feedback before then if at all possible.

Thanks in advance !

Any one have experience with Carib Sea Instant Aquarium ?

This would blend very well with my river pebbles and the particle size (1-2mm) is like that of Eco-Complete (bigger than sand but much smaller than small river pebbles). Should this hold a carpeting ground cover ? I can add root tabs if needed as well.

Or how about this one (CaribSea FloraMax Planted Aquarium Substrate) for a great online sale price (15lbs bag) and many stores will price match online ?
