HOB filter with very small snails?

I received a shipment today of mystery snail babies about the size of peas and under. They're going in a new tank I'm dedicating to them for the time being. I was planning on using an established hob filter with a sponge over the intake. Would there be any unforeseen problems with this? I can scrounge a sponge filter if I have to but would prefer not to.

Should work fine. I use the same setup for baby shrimp and they love all the goodies on the sponge covering the intake. My Nerites crawl all over the thing too.

Make sure it covers all of it or else you will have snails in your filter. whenever my sponge slips off a bit snails weasel their way in

I have a hob and no intake cover. They haven't gotten sucked up so you should be fine without a sponge.
