Guitars in seedy pawnshops are always cheap as well. Just remember to talk them down most of the sticker price. They won't let you walk out empty-handed most of the time.

Heheh, that's where I bought the Danelectro bass for 120 bucks. Then they quit making them and the price went way up. It is a bit of a beast to play and has a couple dead spots luckily where I rarely play. The tone though, beautiful. And it is hollow, so you can still hear it pretty well even if it isn't plugged in.

+1

Pawn shops are a musician's best friend. I have scored some incredible deals at pawn shops just by taking the reigns and somewhat dictating my expectations. On high dollar items, informing the staff that you're willing to cash and carry today but only if you can have it a (x) dollars. It also helps to see how long an item has been sitting in stock. Items that are sitting are just liabilities to a pawn shop. They prefer a fast turnover rate. More than a couple of months on the shelf will usually work to reduce the price significantly... Like in the case of my Mackie SR 24 channel mixer with flight case for under $600. Very minor cosmetic issues.

The best pawn shop deal I ever found was my old B.C. Rich Warlock back in '97 or so. Although I didn't care much for the PO's scalloped frets, it was modified for a 3rd D'Addario humbucker and all the appropriate switch work added for an incredibly crunchy sound.

Following a close second was a Crate BV120 half-stack (original blue) for 250 shortly thereafter. I really, really did not need that and I could not SD the garage enough to really enjoy it. IIRC I traded it for an 89 Ford Escort GT.

best acoustic for the dollar new would have to be the Eastman guitars. If your still looking for a guitar you need to play when of these.
#2 alternative would be a L series Yamaha.
and if money isnt an issue Id want a Collings.

Thats my 2 cents

I have an Eastman 10d adi top hog sides and it sounds like a dream. I smile every time i hold it, Then i strum it and i get giddy
so Im biased

I haven't bought or even researched anything yet, I'm really busy at work right now with Mother's Day coming up and a bunch of parties on top of it. I again thank everyone who has given me advice, and I will certainly use it.
