Hi everybody,
:?: Maybe a stupid question...does anybody know if an open aquarium can affect the CO2 levels of that tank? I hate the idea that it will slowly diffuse out of the water doin nothing with it :x . Because the CO2 will try to equilibrate with the air above the tank, i was thinking about raising the CO2 levels above the watersurface by making an hood or so. I was also thinking it because the air movement, and thus the ventilation, above the water, is very strong...

Well.. it depends. But generally speaking yes it does affect your suspended CO2 levels in the water. If you enclose your top in glass or whatnot the CO2 content in the air above the water will be higher then the air in the open room, so less CO2 will dissapate from the water.

Thanks Gareth! I was thinking the same about the diffusion theory but why is it that some people say that you have to ventilate your watersurface?

It's not going to make that big of a difference. Surface agitation is the more important factor.
