Black Diamond Grit size

I went to my local Tractor Supply store to purchase some Black Diamond sand that I want to use in my 60 gal African cichlid tank and in a 10 gal shrimp tank that I want to start. After I bought it I noticed it was really fine. Tried to check the grit size but both 30-60 and the 40-80 are marked on the bag. It as a fine sand texture.

I guess I want to know if anyone has used this sand grit size?
And what was your experience with it?

Thanks everyone!

I have the same Black Diamond bag marked 30-60 40-80 in my 10g. I believe it is 40-80, it is very fine, finer than pool filter sand which I have in my 40b. it takes A LOT OF CLEANING, I did about 1/4 of the bag at a time in a 5 gallon bucket, it took about 2 1/2 hours to do the whole bag. when the sand was clean I moved it to another bucket, repeated with another 1/4 of the bag. a lot of work but looks great.

I have a Crowntail Betta in the 10.

Oh okay how long has the tank been setup? Any problems besides the long time to clean?

Used it several tanks, never any issues.

I didn't rinse just added it in let the filter run for a while and that was it

No fauna in the tank at the time!

So in all the tanks you have had it in....you never had a problem with the sand getting too compacted?

What's. Good grit size though. My local tractor supply has 20-40 grit. Not fine enough or what?

20/40 grit is what I use, and is just right size.
30/60 grit was too fine, too difficult to get plant's to stay put (zosterfolia).

I personally like the look of 30/60 better. Its also seems to have less chance of having jagged edges. Holds plants for me fine.

I have to say i really like the 20/40, not rough but heavy enought to keep all my plants down.
