CO2 Regulator Questions

Today I got a 2.5lb CO2 tank off Craigslist for $10. The guy found a couple of old regulators and gave them to me, he didn't know if they still worked or not. I figured I could clean em up and use them. I've never heard of these brands, so I don't know anything about them.

The blue one is a Norgren and the other one is a Cornelius. Are these single or dual stage, and if I cleaned them up, possibly replaced the gauges, could I use them? If so, which one is nicer?

I assume that I'd need a CGA-320 fitting for the Cornelius reg.

Any input would help! Thanks!

Bah, brain fart. Forgot the picture. So yeah, the blue one is the Norgren, the top one is the Cornelius.

Sorry for the quality, just picked em up and used my phone for the photo in the car haha. Had to get back to work :p

The first appears to be dual stage while the second is hard to tell. You can see if there's a diaphragm by checking if the back sticks out.

Hope this helps.

they are single stage, the set with the two connected, are single stage, because the way they connect is parallel, not in series.

if they still function, can make co2 systems, but not that good looking.

So what's the purpose of the two adjuster screws and extra gauge on the first one?

Also, on the norgren... the left is the cga 320, bottom is the output w/ a hose... what's the little thing on the right?

The cornelius could look pretty boss if you cleaned it up or polished it a little. Or you could go all steampunk

Looks like a safety pressure release valve

Thanks for the input guys! I looked into these regulators more, and they're both commonly used for kegging. The cornelius one is a dual body, so it has dual outputs that you can set to different PSIs (if you wanna tap two beers at different PSI). So I guess that one is ruled out for now (until I decide to use one tank for two aquariums).

The Norgren one is single stage, unfortunately (and yes Darkblade, you're right about the pressure release valve - at first I thought it was a knob of some sort). This one has a cracked gauge cover. Once I get the tank filled I may test them out, but I don't think I'll use them for the time being. I don't need the dual body yet, and the Norgren is pretty beat up. Maybe I can pawn them off to a homebrewing friend haha

Thanks, guys!
