Does removing tannins remove the benefits of it?

I tried googling and it's making me crazy...

I just put in Purigen in my HOB filter. I know it removes the color of the tannins, BUT my question is does it remove the benefits of the tannins too (i.e. lowering PH, antibacterial properties)?

I am curious about this too. Not to hijack th thread....but how much purigen do you need to use for it to be effective at removing the tannins?

I'm using the 100mL bag for my 7.5 gal in my AC50. On the package it says 100mL treats 400L (100 gallons). I'm assuming that it will take longer for my Purigen to get dirty since it's a small tank. I just put it in a few hours ago, and I am already noticing a difference in color.

Anwin, if you're removing the actual humic substance, Ha, FA which is what you're are doing, then yes you lose the benefits as well. If you're removed the color, you've removed the tannins.

I see, so i guess you can't have crystal clear water with the benefits of having Indian almond leaves inside the tank at the same time. That sucks
