Ballast efficiency reduction

Do ballasts deteriorate over time? Magnetic versus electronic, T8 versus T5? I realise that tubes deteriorate but is it the same for the ballasts in the long-term? Are we talking negligable amounts or should we think about renewing our control gear every few years or so?

The old magnetic ballasts do go bad. Not sure on the electronic ones though. I doubt they do.
