Protecting wood ....

This weekend i am planning on making a wood hood for my 10g because i dont like how i have my new 2x13w bright kit hooked up to it and i find enclosed wood canopys more attractive. So to protect the wood from warping what should i use to coat it? Can i use clear coat or is there another product i should buy? Thanks in advance.

Some clear polyurethane is what I used...... Works for my DIY hood....

Alright that is exactly what i have, polyurethane clear gloss. Thanks i just had to make sure i was going to use the right product first so i didnt have any future warps.
