my Opae Ulae tank

Hi!

I am trying to set up a 3 gallon ecosphere for opae ulae. I just realized that they don't sell any smaller than a 10 lb bag of live sand =<.

I was wondering if there are any salties on tpt close to boston, willing to sell me about 2 lb of live sand and some chaeto marco algae.

thanks!

Be sure when you fill out the registration info for Bostonreefers you provide an accurate address, etc... I know they do a good job on trying to keep out spammers and that can slow the approval process. For example, if you provide a fake address they wont approve the registration.

Weird then, the mods must be snoozing.

I have a 3 gallon bucket of sand that was once in a reef tank, no longer live though as it has been sitting awhile. You're welcome to it if you want it. Are you starting with live cured rock?

I'm not setting up a salt water tank. I'm setting up a brackish 'ecosphere' for some upae ulae shrimps. There will be no filter, will live cure rocks be okay with that? I'm not familiar with salt water, lol. I have some lava rocks.

I want to get some chaeto and use it as a nutrient sponge, so I will be sort of a ecosphere with me providing food and top offs lol

In a full saltwater setup the live rock is the biological filter. A hob or canister filter is actually frowned upon by most as causing more trouble than their worth. How that relates to brackish im not sure as I've never tried it. Ive been thinking of trying a small tank for the opae as well but was going to do it in a higher salt concentration, best of luck. If you want the sand let me know.

Kkz if I can't find any I'll bug you. But yea I think I will get some live rocks with my lava rocks.

How much higher? The person I got it from has them in specific gravity of 1.011.

thanks!

I got some cured live rocks at lovely pets, and lucky they had a ripped bag of sand so the guy sold me 2 lbs =D

I have the bowl set up now, but i didn't rinse the live sand because the guy at lovely pets told me not to. its soooo cloudy its like milk! lol i asked a saltie forum and they said its normal and that it'll settle in a few days.
