co2 tank dump :(

I got home one evening and checked on the tank only to see that all of my fish were struggling to stay right side up so I checked the bubble counter on my regulator and what do you know, the bubbles per second were off the chart! I quickly turned the regulator of and lowered the tank water down so that the filters could get some air into the water. all of my shrimp survived and all but one black phantom survived too. but of course I can't let this happen again to my poor fish! what can I do to my current regulator to stop the co2 dump from happening again? I'm scared to even use co2 now. will one of these dump co2 http://greenleafaquariums.com/produc...regulator.html is that model dual stage? it has two gauges but I'm not sure if its dual stage. well thanks guys. R.I.P black phantom tetra, I'm going to miss you :'(

It is a single stage regulator, but a good one. When your bubble rate went up had the CO2 bottle pressure dropped much? Single stage regulator output pressure tends to increase as the inlet pressure decreases, and if your bubble rate has been near the limit for the fish to live with, that increase in output pressure, thus an increase in bubble rate, can be too much for the fish. A dropping CO2 bottle pressure almost always means the liquid CO2 in the bottle is gone and only gas remains.

Was the tank emptying or did you adjust the bps the night before?
Interested because this seems to happen with the Milwaukee reg mostly, never heard of the green leaf reg dumping.

It may not be necessary to get a new unit. What are you using now?

without buyng anything, check ur pressure daily. if its dropped at all, liquid is gone.. refill the tank. this will prevent ANY end of the tank dumping no matter what regulator you have
