Hello from Jersey

Hi everyone! I've been searching around this forum for a couple years, and finally joined to be able to subscribe to threads. Lots of good information here, thanks to all that give a hand.

I've been fish keeping for about 7yrs. Currently have a planted 50 Gallon thats been running for 2yrs. Upgraded from a 29 gallon that was running for 5yrs.
-Low light tank (Marinland LED burnt out, needed a quick fix)
-Java Fern, moss balls, recently purchased hair grass.

I would like to darken my substrate, and add more to get some depth. How can I do that without disturbing the tank too much. Think I will search around and decide as the days go by.

Filtration running is a Aqua Clear 70, and 50. I purchased a SUNSUN HW-302 3-STAGE. Should run ok in my setup.

Currently housing;
2 Koi Angels
2 Khoula Loach
1 Clown Pleco
1 Pleco
5+ Ghost Shrimp
lots of snails (I try to keep them in check)
7 Black Skirt Tetra
3 White Skirt Tetra
7 Neon Tetra

I've included some photos below. Any feedback is welcome.

THanks!! I purchased a SUNSUN HW-302 3-STAGE. Once its in I'll test run it to check for leaks, and set it up.

I like to have java fern fill into the rocks, and driftwood. I had more, but the Marineland LED 60watt burnt out, so I used the standard lighting on for a short time, then put them under T8 bulbs for now. Maybe I can upgrade soon, unless they do well under these lights.

To darken the substrate you can go with Eco complete right over what you have, or research blasting sand. I just purchased blasting sand will be getting a go then will be able to give better feedback. The Eco complete though is good but a bit pricey

Yes, I was running Double Bright LED by Marineland. They lasted 2yrs and Ferns were thriving.

So after 3 months of standard lights, I had a die off. Since I'm on a budget at the moment, I got a shop light running 6700K T8 and Aqueon Floramax T8. So far so good. Hopefully I can make the upgrade soon.

Thanks. To the right side of the tank, I have a mix of Eco complete. I used to keep a Melon Swords on the right, didnt have luck due to my lighting at the time.
I know Eco Complete can be messy and really cloud at the beginning. Would rinsing out the eco complete be a good idea to avoid clouding?

Don't rinse ecocomplete. You will lose all the nutrients it provides. Welcome to TPT.
