Moss Question

I have a clump of what I'm pretty certain is Christmas Moss that I bought at Petco this morning when I stopped in for some filter floss (they sold it as Java Moss). I usually stay away from their stuff, but I decided to give it a shot because I got a huge clump for $2. Thing is it's a bit brown...the ends are still bright green, bit the inner portions were tied together with a rubber band and they're pretty brown (plus it was in a non-heated tank with almost no light which probably didn't help much either).

Can any of you moss pros tell me if it has a good chance of coming back? I'd love to tie it onto some of my wood, but I don't want to waste the effort if it's a lost cause.

Thanks!!!

If there is new, green growth on the tips, it is salvageable. I have managed to resurrect even almost totally brown ones, so it's not impossible, just takes time and lots of TLC.

Yo Mad, I know exactly what moss your talking about because I picked the same stuff up last week, its brown in the center and the outside tips are dark green like you said. I got it at Petco also for 2 $.. I am preety sure its willow moss shown here(just in really bad condition)...:

organic sideburns: That is a picture of erect moss (Vesicularia reticulata) and not willow moss (Fontinalis antipyretica).

Btw, since it's from Petco, does this look familiar?

I know next to nothing about mosses, but seeing this thread I went to Petsmart in MD today and low and behold they had one clump of moss. $2. It's real brown though, I hope it makes it. There isn't much green to it. I also hope it's the same stuff you guys have here. It looks nice when it's green.

Where in Maryland do you live? I went to the Petco in Hunt Valley to get the moss, I am sure you got the same stuff I did...

Mine came from the Germantown Petco. One of the worst petstores I have ever been into. I felt bad even spending money in there (even though it was only $2)
