10000K lighting on planted

12 gallon Nano, came with a PL-24W 110V +10000K light.

I don't love the look of the light but how's it going to be for plants?
The 6700 bulb is only 9.99 but with shipping 18.98 so if the plants will grow just as well with the 10000K I'd just as soon wait on replacing it.

Thanks

Robin

I prefer the "crisp white" of a high K bulb and it will work for plants. Keep an eye out for the 6700K (or 8000K) bulb though (Big Al's has run free shipping lately). No need to panic.

So it's a matter of persoanl preference between the 10000K bulb and the 6700? The plants do well either way?

Thanks.

Robin

Big Als doesn't carry this bulb--have only been able to find it at Dr. Foster&Smiths--but that's good to know about Big Al's and shipping.

Plants won't care, it all comes down to what pleases yer eye. 10K is icy and sharp, 6700k is warmer.

I use a 10,000k bulb on my tank, even though the only plants are dwarf tropical lillies and java fern (and moss!). I am quite happy with the crisp, neutral colour and I plan to use three 10,000k bulbs on an upcoming 6'x28"x3' tank. These may be suplimented with a couple of pink growlux fluros to bring out the reds in the fish if the MH alone is too harsh.
