Automatic Ammonia Dosing During Fishless Cycle

So - in planning ahead, I started cycling my Eheim 2217 filter (before I even got my tank). I'm cycling it on an old 10 gallon I have empty using ammonia. It takes about 4ml to get it to 4ppm. Been going about two weeks now and the ammonia level is dropping every 24 hours and I am re-dosing while I wait for Nitrite's to calm down ... so, things are progressing.

The issue is, next week, I am going to be gone for four nights and there will be no one home to dose.

Any DIY or clever ideas on how I can keep feeding the setup ammonia? Was wondering if I could use some tubing and setup a drip but wasn't sure how to spread it out over the four days.

Thanks!

throw in pellet fish food to let it rot/release ammonia naturally.

Throw some raw shrimp in there and let it rot. Nasty but it will keep the ammonia flowing to feed the bacteria. Or some fish food. Honestly though, I doubt 4 days without will hurt it much.

I guess that's what I was wondering ... How long would the bacteria survive between doses ...

Fish pellets sound like a good idea. Shrimp sounds nasty (smile).

Most of the bacteria will survive a 4 day fast, but why risk it when you can throw some fish food or a piece of shrimp in there? When you come back its as easy as siphoning up the junk, and then back to pure ammonia.

When I did my fishless cycle, there were several times I skipped a day, and once or twice skipped 2 days, and it didn't seem to affect the cycle.
