Substrate change for my shrimp

Hello everyone,
I need to pic your brain for a bit. I have a 46 gallon bow front that is fully planted and has OEBT’s and PFR’s. The substrate that is in there currently is maybe 3 year old FSS. I have an extra 9L bag of ADA Aquasoil lying around. Will the PFR’s and OEBT’s be ok in that ph or should I go back to FSS? Or should I go with FloraMAX substrate since I have access to that to. Keep in mind that my param’s are good and both shrimp are breeding like rabbits.

Please chime in on what substrate you’re using with OEBT’s and PFR’s.
Thanks

Why touching it if shrimps are breeding like rabbits? A bag of ADA is nothing for a 46G, and the initial ammonia leach will be an issue as your PH likely is above 7.

I realize the ammonia would be deadly. I would also quarantine the shrimp until the soil cycled and did not leach ammonia. I just don’t know if FSS has a life span before it is useless. I was just trying to do some research before that happens. Thanks for your reply.

So my next question should be … Does FSS have a life span?

To my knowledge all buffering soils have a lifespan.

If you're running 3 year old FSS and the shrimp are breeding like rabbits, don't mess with it! In my experience FSS had little effect on pH and the effect that it did have only lasted about 6 months. I was using straight RO and adding gh boost and the pH was hovering around 6.7.
