2G Hex Tank Brainstorming!

Alright, so I've had this acrylic 2 gallon hex tank forever! I've got a single daylight CFL in the hood, but no filter. That leads me to the first idea.

Dirt tank with loads of plants?

But... how? I have no experience with dirt and have no idea what plants I'd need to choose for enough filtration for a nice fauna specimen, if possible. I assume it would need to be tall and bushy stuff for the back with a nice open front for swimming and some small foreground bits.

What would YOU do?

Well, dirt, a cap of your choice I pretty much use black diamond blasting sand, and I would pick out some ludwiga, maybe 2-3 types of it and plant it in little clusters in the back of the tank, then some moss on some hard scape. ie small rock(s) or driftwood and pick out something for ground cover dwarf hairgrass, dwarf sag or whatever you like, maybe a few crypts or anubus, hard to say depends on how much you want to spend and what you have access too

I have a bag of the organic Mirace Gro already, and sand for cap.

I wrote down your plant suggestions. Thank you! I'll be looking for some hard scape material now. Everything I have currently is too large for this project in particular.

Do you think something would be happy in here? A beta, maybe?

I would have a huge driftwood in the middle pointing up vertically and stock it with shrimp. It would give a lot of surface area for the shrimp to roam around and also would look awesome for a vertical hex shape.

Thank you for your take on it! I'm headed to the beach for the week and I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for something that would look nice as a center piece.

Now, with some shrimp and mystery snails in here as my fauna, in a dirted tank, am I looking at needing filtration here? Heating? I'm in completely new territory here!
