Which Kind of LED? Edit my list please!

I am thinking of busing an LED light. I want to know if I should use XM-L, XP-G, or XT-E. Here is the rest of the stuff.

Extruded aluminum heatsink or aluminum sheet heatsink
10 LEDs
Rapid LED dimmable driver with potentiometer
40 60 or 80 degree lenses. Which should I use for a mini m?
Assorted wire, plugs, etc.
About 60-90 dollars for everything

So tell me what drivers and stuff I should use instead of this in your opinion. So what optics and LEDs? I will use cool whites.

As you already said... Wow nice way to treat others who are trying to help you... You need 10k cool whites and royal blues. As far as how many. Google it

Fixed! Sorry about that. We ~straight~ bro?

Isn't 10k almost like what they use over reefs?

Yea it is. For a 5g I'm using 4 whites and 2 blues. Just make sure you use whites over 65k. Rapidled.com you can even get solder less ones. It's a bit of an over kill but rule of thumb is 2w per blue

You can also get a dimable driver and tweak it to your preference

For a tank that small, get the dim4 driver from ledgroupbuy. It will cost you a bit more but you have the ability to run 3 led's of each channel. With that controller, you HAVE to run 3 led's per string. Max current on the controller is 500mA but that should be more than enough for a tank at that height. The big positive is that you have full dimming capabilities. It will run you a tad bit more money but you might as well get the full benefits of led's.

Money= tight

Hard to make money when all your plants are either non profitable, you're too young for a job, and you just feel like you have to buy that fish/plant/shrimp/tank wherever you look or go. I'll check it out though.

I don't understand the channels! All I know is +-+-+-.
I plan on only using 1 or 2 colors.
I also can't find the driver. Can you link please?

never built an LED like this, but have both 10k and 7k units from Finnex (production Fugeray and a prototype 10k fugeray) Tried both over my 3 gallon jbj picotope - I highly recommed the 6.5 or 7k over the 10k.

I honestly thought I would want it the other way around (10k = "daylight", must be better!) but I could not have been more wrong. The 10k LEDs are very sterile, antiseptic, hospital looking. Like a color washing glare rather than just bright.

I'm running stock Fug3ray 7k over both my tanks, with the blues on with the whites. Still very bight and well lit to look at, and warm without looking yellow at all.

If I was building my own I would have a few color leds in the mix with the whites. just enough to mix in with the white and make colors look 'full', not enough to look like a light show.

Both tanks in sig
