i beleive, though i could be wrong, that t12 and t8 are less efficient than the t5 equivalent in terms of wattage use, heat and light produced. If you were going to upgrade, the natural inclination would be towards T5HO.

T12 use more energy give off less light.

Get the t8 ... Should cost the same...

Or order some 6500k not5 bulb.

A 10W T12 puts out fewer lumens per watt than a 10W T5. Trend is consistent with all fluorescent tubes. T2 > T5 > T8 > T12 in lumens/watt.

Hello Scotty...

The T5 will give you more intense light, but shines it over a narrower area than the T12. The 12's light is spread over a wider area, but the light isn't as intense.

A bulb in 6500K range is recommended for aquarium plants, because the light blue color this lights gives out, is closest to natural daylight at 5500K.

Research the lighting needs of the plants you have. A T5 will give you stronger light than the T12. Ideally, you want to use 6500K T5s over the the 6500K T12.

im thinking of ether getting a 4 bulb t12 to replace the current fixture or adding another dual t5NO. Which would be butter? A T5NO would be more economical. For you could leave it less time than the T8s. So the T5NO strip as died? What size of tank is this going over? Are any of the plants pink. What are you using for Co2?

I have found 1T5NO and 1T8 works best over my 29G tank. With 2 T5NO I have algae problems. For I don't dose regular with excel. I was thinking when I get diy Co2 set up to use 6700k and 10,000k bulbs. Got a pic of the tank? I would like to see how bright it is.

Check for another T5NO bulb come to think amazon has the best deals.
