Fish Planet Deerfield Il

First visit there was last night and have to say i was exteemly impressed at the quality of the fish and the overall appearence of the tanks. It isnt a huge store but they had some very cool pieces of manzanita wood and some other planted tank specific products. I think i will be back to pick up one of those branches for my new tank.

The owner was manning the counter and was more then happy to engage in some intelligent conversation.

I must say this store is a cut above every other store ive been into in the last few months

I have been there a few times and the store is always spotless as are all the tanks.
Livestock is really nice quality and his prices seem fair.

Plants- only saw a few sad looking swords.

What's AA in Hoffman?

I've been out of the game for 8 years and I'm looking for local places.

How are their fish there? I live near the one in Bolingbrook, but I work in Wood Dale, so I could always swing up to that one too.

I've went to the one in Bolingbrook this past Tuesday.

They had lots of plants. I didn't look at the fish.

I purchased Fluval Shrimp Stratum substrate. I thought the prices were a little high. Guess I'm used to online prices!

The staff is young and not extremely knowledgeable.

I had to interrupt the employees' BS session to get some help.

If you know what you want and don't need CS than it's not bad.

+1

casual reading of the forum here will make you an expert compared to the staff there, but if you know what you want its pretty ok

i made the mistake of asking a question to one of the employees and felt like i was giving her an education on planted tanks (thanks to TPT)

as far as equipment prices, no store beats online!

No kidding. I was there looking for a particular piece of wood last week and just for kicks checked filter prices. I had a nice little chuckle.

Don't ever look for any piece of wood there. That is usually completely overly priced. If you go to the Swap in April, there is a guy, Jeff Michels from Aquatic Clarity, who has an amazing selection of driftwood to choose from. His prices are also about 1/2 the price of AA, if not more

True that! I actually drove out to his place this winter and picked up some wood. He also has a pretty impressive breeding operation and is a good guy to talk to

I don't normally. Like I said, I was looking for a very particular piece. That said, I was there last night, and they restocked their plants. I almost picked up a few, but I was in a hurry.

GCCA usually has about 4 per year and someone usually makes a post about it. It is coming up in a few weeks so hopefully we will see you there

I'm hoping my tank is cycled in time for the show, but I do plan on going as well.
