Which form of Fenbendazole do you use in CRS tank?

In some weird way I got hydras in my CRS tank. I don't have them in my other tanks.

Did some research and Fenbendazole keep showing up as popular method to get rid of it. Most people dosing liquid form, however, I found a powder form on Amazon.com

Amazon.com: Fish Bendazole (Fenbendazole) Powder 250mg (3 Packets): Pet Supplies Amazon.com: Fish Bendazole (Fenbendazole) Powder 250mg (3 Packets): Pet Supplies

Has anyone use this and if it's safe for CRS and babies survival rate?

I've used dog dewormer that contains fenbendazole. SafeGuard or Pancur works with CRS and I've had no problems with my stock.

I used to use fenbendazole - panacur or safeguard. Now I use the snail form (spixi snail) because I mainly have issues with hydras, not planarias.

This. If you choose this very cheap route, I can help you with dosing.

Not to be a wet blanket but not following a products directions (label) or using a product for cross use violates plenty of laws. A product designated for dogs cannot be used for horses unless the label says so. So on and so on. These discussions should not be in an open forum. There seems to be a number of professionals on this site who should know better. You are inviting trouble.

Hmmmm...pick up a Kleenex box and it says, "It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Use only as a facial tissue."

Gee...I wonder how many people are going to jail?

Nobody posted that they cross-used panacur designated for dogs on horses or vice versa. Thanks for pointing out the obvious incase someone does or has wrongly used a product... HOWEVER!

I find it HIGHLY ironic that you bring up this "product designating issue" considering we are not using it our dog deworming panacur product on dogs but rather on our shrimp tanks L-O-L.

Anyways, I used Panacur from Liam on my Hydra infested RCS in the past.

I probably shouldn't have made light of that, however after checking on the net, the EPA requires for ALL labels to contain this statement in order to be accepted to be placed on the public shelves.

(EPA's Label Review Manual, Chapter 3: General Labeling Requirements, Section D.)

Here's an interesting link to why the warning exists on the labels and who it is directed at: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/...-federal-crime

i can see how it can be a problme i mean if your dosing a dog with horse dewormer it might kill the dog cause of how much stronger it would be. but in the case of panacur in the tank you only use 1/10th of a gram for a 10 gallon tank.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to try this powder form, it designed for aquarium so I'm sure it's safe.

I doubt anyone would be that oblivious to give their dog horse medicine lol. Or vice versa.

It is common sense & a reasonable assumption that perscribed medicine for horses would have a higher concentration due to body mass. And why would someone buy a medicine labelled for the wrong animal then feed it to said animal XD

Anyways, I dose the panacur in the span of 2 days. 0.1 gram of panacur put into a test tube, crushed, and mixed with tank water.

1st dose is sprayed onto Hydra/Planaria through a dropper
2nd dose is done on what remains or near the substrate for any who try to get away

and that's all that is needed to wipe out a whole tank of hydra/planaria. Best of luck to you!

My point poorly made is that this is a public forum with people of all ages reading and participating. Just because there is not someone knocking at your door to inspect your setup we should not be cavalier when discussing chemical use. At least two people discuss the following: "bought a 1L bottle of panacur years ago....it was made for cattle or horses. I will never run out" and "i use panacur the powder dog dewormer". Is this not an implied cross use in violation of the label.
How many hundreds of dollars are spent on shrimp, water additives, food etc. but your going to save a buck and use cattle dewormer. Please recommend using aquarium products or PM with other thoughts like you would when discussing vendors.
