fish gasping for air when...

My fish seems to be gasping for air when i dose my tank with supplement. At first i used the API leaf zone, i have 2 55g and i have experimented on both, after 24 hours i will find them at the top of the tank gasping for air. I thought it was the api so i used flourish still the same, all my cardinals lost their colors their red belly turn whitish pinkish color i lost 1 rummy nose. What seems to be the problem? do i need to add a air stone?

How much are you dosing? That really shouldn't make them do that unless you're way overdoing it...

Air stone isn't a bad idea. If fish are gasping, then cut the dose down until it stops. For some reason or another, it's too much for them.

Default fish gasping for air when...

The dose isn't your problem get some serious surface agitation and check water temp unless you have some south American fish drop your tank water to 76-77 I have south American fish at 84 in my 50g but my flow and surface movement are huge

You say your water is fine. What does that mean? What are the parameters?

Any CO2?

Fish just dont like ferts or co2 period, its a no brainer. Your dosing chemicals into the water. If your water is fine parameter wise , then definitely oxygen issues, and i would say dosing.
I would be half dosing if you insist on dosing. You should say what type of plants, may not even have to dose. I grow in a 75, and a 55, and dose twice a week, sometimes not once, no co2, and my plants are growing like wild fire.

I have discus in one tank and rainbows in the other one i keep both at 82. All my tanks have low light plants. Im gonna add a hob filter on one of my tank to see if that helps.

If its low light plants, then you can prob get away without dosing. I dunno, just a option especially with discus.

i spent the night at my gf's house last night when i came back this morning the cardinals have lost their color, their bellys have gone white. WTF? the only thing i can think of is that i recently bought some new food for my discuss, some dried brine shrimp could that be the problem? my discus is doing fine
