Do you guys believe it really works, or is it "snake oil"? What about the A.C.T?

It has worked for me for the past 5 yrs, but I am not the anal type that looks at my fish very close when I dose it to my 55, 29 and recently added 10 gal tanks. Lets see what the others have to say...anyone?

Snake oil. It still took well over four weeks to cycle my tank using this product, with the typical off-the-charts ammonia and nitrite levels. That shouldn't happen with six pearl danios in a 40G tank if the product did as promised.

Sorry to hear it did not do it for you 2la. What kind of filtration are you running?

Heh, no need to be sorry, Robert (unless you own stock in it or something...

). I was running a Fluval 204 at the time. This was four years ago when I first started out; now I 'instantly' cycle any new tanks by using water and substrate or filtration media from an existing tank.

The problem with Stress Zyme and other similar products is that they're based on Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter species, which are the primary nitrifying genera in terrestrial situations but not in aquatic environments (or at least in aquariums). They exhibit nitrifying activity for a limited time, but they won't contribute to the establishment of any sustained populations of nitrogen converters.
