A quick introduction
Hi All,
I've been lurking for the past month or two. I figured it was time to step up and say "Hi", before I actually start posting. My name is Mike, and I've been involved in aquarium keeping for most of my life. Also had pretty much every herp and bird you can think of, too, but those are different forums! I grew up with the old chrome-framed glass tanks that my parents had in the early '70s, which later became my first tanks after I excavated them from the junk on the side yard and repaired them. By high school, I was working at a great LFS, and had as many as a dozen tanks in my room at any given time. After college, I became partner in a local LFS in my college town, back in the late '80s/early '90s. By the time I moved on from that, I was ready to take a break from the hobby for awhile. Then, when my daughter was born five years ago, I figured that putting a tank in her room would be a nice way to get back into things. It's a 26g bowfront low-tech planted community tank. I found this site while doing a little research on GBRs - always been one of my favorite FW fish, but one I'd tried a few times with no success. After reading a lot here (and elsewhere), I'd pretty much planned on trying to get some from a breeder. Then, I was at my local mom-and-pop LFS a few weeks ago, just checking their stock while picking up some frozen food, and noticed that a two of their rams had obviously paired up. After talking with the sales associate about my concerns, I went ahead and picked them up. They spawned two days later (ate the eggs, of course!), and have been doing great since then. We'll see how they do long-term. Anyway, I may ask the occasional question, but I'm more likely to chime in with advice on the fish-keeping side of things from time to time. Just wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate this resource, and will try to add to the conversation when I have something potentially useful to say. |
