First water lily bloom

I've always wanted a water lily, but never actually got one because I never found any locally and didn't bother ordering online. I finally found one at Petsmart of all places last month on clearance for $3. I wasn't sure if it was even alive, but I put it in our 200 gallon container pond and it's bounced back nicely. The first flower opened up a couple days ago. Here's a shot I got in the rain yesterday:

I've never been so excited for a single flower!

Sweet. Lilly flowers are so beautiful. Hard to believe a $3 bulb can produce a gorgeous flower.

I like that shot a lot, actually. I can hear the rain bouncing off the pads.

I know, right? It was actually a three pack with another type of water lily and an iris, but they didn't make it. Still not a bad deal. Hehe.

Thank you! I took it with my Nokia Lumia. I'm one of the few people that can't say "taken with iphone 4."

Go you! It's always so cool to get something on the cheap and see it make a beautiful plant.

Nice pic! Your lily's bloom looks really similar to mine, check out my thread and let me know what you think. You definitely got a nice deal, I picked mine up potted and flowering but it cost me way more than $3 :P

Really really sweet. The flower and the shot. Let's see more blooms

I was also surprised that my local PetSmart started carrying pond bulbs.

Thanks guys

Roshan, the flowers do look very similar, but your leaves look a lot smaller. I don't think mine is a dwarf variety, if I remember right the name was "Sioux." That is a really pretty picture of yours, by the way. Your whole setup is very nice.

You're right, I do have a dwarf variety as I felt that would look more natural in my smaller container pond. I've had this particular plant for almost 3 years now, and I now have 2 pots full of tubers, when I started from a small 3 inch tuber. Now I'm looking to trade one of my pots for a night blooming variety, as I feel that those blooms have a special beauty associated with them.

You should definitely post more pics of your whole pond, looking forward to seeing them!
