Lucky you! When I was in class today, it was raining HAIL! First time I've seen hail. It's quite chilly down here.

Warming up in Minnesota too. Our high today was around 37. Shorts and Tee shirts for us once it hits around 50.

You use heater in California? I live in the bay area and haven't use a heater for a while. Even mid-winter all my shrimp are enjoying it.

How much electricity do heaters use if they don't have to actually run but are plugged in.

None. They only kick on when the water temp goes below a certain degree that YOU set.

What's the purpose of removing them if they don't come on during warmer weather? What am I missing?

I haven't run heaters in any of my tanks since I set them up. Most of mine are in the bedroom though where I work so the heat from the laptop, TV and work light keeps things rather toasty in here

Yep no heater on my shrimp tank either. Then again my apartment's heat is messed up. Been set at 45 all winter but it stays around 70 lol. Now the fan run by my reefkeeper is awesome. Staying at 68 with only a .2 degree temp change.
