I purchased this light, because I was originally going to go with a Evolve 4.

However, now I have been looking at these two tanks...

Do you or anyone at Finnex believe this light will be good for these tanks? I feel the 6.1 gallon I would still be fine. But the 8.7 gallon, I do not think I would be in the medium range enough to grow medium to high light plants.

Looking at the PAR chart it seems that I would be able to supply medium to high light on the Evolve 8 which is what I will be running this on

What is the spread like on this light, with it being 10" long? I'm trying to figure out what dimensions it would work for in my quest to build a nano shrimp tank.

I have it on a Evolve 8 which is 12x12x12. According to the PAR it is enough for medium light and it seems plenty bright.

My only qualm is that the support arm is a little on the short side so I had to get kind of creative with the base placement, it doesn't look bad or anything it just can't go on the back section of the tank.

I just ordered one. I'm starting 2 different nano tanks....one 2.5 gallon and one 5.5 gallon. These aren't fancy tanks, they basically look like mini 10 gallon tanks that you would buy at Petsmart. I think this light is going to be perfect for either one....just not sure which one yet. The 2.5 gallon is 12" long, 6" front to back, 8" deep. The 5.5 is 16" long, 8.5" front to bacl and 10.5" deep. Which tank do you think I should put this light on? The other tank is getting a regular clip on lamp that I found, which is going to get a CFL put in. Still trying to decide which CFL to get for medium light.

It really depends on what you are looking to do with your tank and what you are trying to grow. It would definitely need to be a very "high tech" 2.5 gallon, not sure if that is what you are interested in doing.

Not really looking to go high tech at all. I MAY delve into some DIY co2, but that's about it. And the only plant I'm considering that is out of the low tech range is blyxa japonica, or some other "easier" low growing, carpet-like plant. So are you saying this is high light for the 2.5? Should I use it on the 5.5 instead? I may have the option of raising the light a bit from the surface with the setup I'm considering.

Personally I would put it on the 5.5 gallon. The arm would be a perfect length for it and would allow you to raise it as needed.
