Hi folks, I just bought melafix from petco. What is the dosing recommendation for shrimp? And should I dose constant (weekly) or just when ever I add more shrimp to the tank (like the bottle said). I have been reading melafix works only as a prevention so dose weekly after water change?

Full dose every day for 7 days then do 80% water change. Sometimes it can take 3-4 weeks of that regimen to start seeing improvement. Or you may see none at all. Everyone will have different experiences with it.

I'd recommend starting with 1/3 or 1/2 dose if you've never used it on them before. Some shrimp it doesn't bother at all, some it does.

Silly question, but have you considered something less harsh like tannins?

Came home tonight, no shrimp were dead. Hallelujah!
I guess the 3 IAL works wonder. So anyway should I still need the melafix? If not I'm going to return it to get my thirteen bucks back lol.

Anywhoo this is how my water surface looks like.

Is it bad? Looks like the oxygen bubbles is trap in the water, even with the filter breaking the water tension.

I've wiped out a colony of CRS/CBS and yellows by not washing my hands. Took about 2 weeks.. But the effects of my carelessness eventually caught up with all of them. In my opinion it is absolutely imperative to ALWAYS wash your hands, especially if you smoke, handle money all day. All kinds of toxins and bacteria you are introducing. Not saying that's the cause of your deaths... But heading forward, I would recommend it. My mishap, I had just pet my moms dog on the neck, that had just been treated with a topical flea killer, then put my hand in the tank. No amount of water changes helped.

So everything is back to normal now. Just bought Fluval Aquaclear 30 and a new fluval sponge prefilter, and added bag of purigen. And did 10% water change. Turns out I didn't really need melafix after all, IALs works wonders!

Temperature 70F
pH: 6.4
Nitrate: 0

And I start seeing shrimp babies

I have both Mosura BioPlus and BorneoWild Bebi. Is it okay to mix both powder together to feed the baby shrimps? Because I've read that they are two different bacteria/ food.

Glad your deaths stopped! I've started using tannin powder myself in my White Pearl and Carbon tanks. Jungle Natural Colors. I like it so far, and is great for instant tannins instead of waiting for the uneven leeching.

I love tannins. I might have to try that.

I saw the tannin extract on eBay. May I know which one are you using? I wanted to try as well because IAL price went up to $.50 each :/

I'm using Jungle Natural Colors. ~$2 for a 2 ounce bottle of powder. Cheap, but hey- it's just Tannins. One 2 ounce bottle will treat 120 g.

So I left home for 3 days and this is what I saw...

They hatched! Three shrimp made it and I'm thankful that the artificial hatchery works.

Maybe this is why they hatched... So many yummy food on the net!
