Mischling Hybrids

so doing some back and fourth with a 2 sellers for these shrimps, one says you can get bkk/wine babies if you have a bkk/wine shrimp already to breed with. The other says his mischling has bkk/wine gene and will generally produce bkk/wine babies here and there per batch. Is this a legit claim, in terms of the 2nd seller saying you can bkk/wine babies out of mischling? I'm just intrigued cause I like to see if I can get them to breed for those babies cause they're rather pricey, and this is just a more fun way of gambling to see if i can these babies cheaper

It's all about the statistic. Of course when you breed TB with TB you will get TB offspring. But when you breed mischling with normal CRS, the outcome of having TB babies are low.

Roughly

M x M = 25% chance of TB

M x TB = 50%

Now, this is extremely rough because shrimp don't always follow Mendelian genetics, AND this is an avg percentage over a long period of time over multiple clutches.

so based on both response, IF these mischling do hold tb gene's and I keep them together, I should be able to get some tb off-springs like bkk/wine here and there correct?

Should. Yes. Though when I tried that they never did. Bought 20 of them and though they breed quite well, never threw a single TB.

Yup. Once you have your first round of babies though, any that aren't TB's should be culled to a new tank because they may be more Mischlings but more than likely are just CRS/CBS, so keeping them in the tank to breed if they grow up, would just dilute the mischlings you already have.

great advice, thanks.....hoping to see some babies out of my low grade crs/cbs 1st....I'm gona keep these mischling in the bigger tank and see what happens.

did you ever try to put in a pure tb like bkk/wine in to see what would happen?

Nope. Didn't have access to any. Eventually I just dumped them into my CBS tank.
