Tannins And Metal Availability

http://www.users.muohio.edu/hagermae...0Chelators.pdf

So I saw in another thread about tannins complexing with metal ions. I had no idea this actually happened. After some googling it turns out that tannins will complex with metal ions such as zinc, copper and iron making them unavailable to living organisms. Does this mean that we should strive to reduce tannin levels in the aquarium?
