Eggs! and Tadpoles!

I put my male and female azureus together a couple weeks ago...

And lastnight I decided to check the cocohut I put a petri dish under and found...

Two eggs! I put the whole petri dish inside a plastic shoebox with a damp papertowel under it for humidity. I'll update as they start turning into tadpoles.

In the mean time, I also bought 5 already hatched tadpoles from a semi-local breeder. These are Borja Ridge Vents, same as my lone male that I have, so when they morph and grow up a bit, they can all live together in my 37 gallon aquarium!

Managed to get this really nice shot of one tadpole. This one was marked as hatching on 1/31, but it is as far along or farther than the ones marked 1/7, so I'm actually thinking the person I bought them from meant to mark it 12/31 perhaps. This one is maybe a week away from popping it's front legs, then for 2 weeks after that, it will re-absorb it's tail and then climb out of the water.

Congratulations! Babies are exciting.
I tried keeping tadpoles once when I was little, the ones you get in the mail and keep in the plastic habitat. They would start growing legs and then die.
Then over the summer, we had to let our pool sit before we could get a new liner, so a bunch of grey tree frogs laid eggs in our pool. I couldn't save them all, but for awhile I had my 10 gallon full of tadpoles. I had to release them because it was getting too hot outside.
Hopefully your babies will grow up to have more babies!

More development on the eggs. They are getting wider at one end and the spinal ridge is really apparent now.

and the tadpoles. This is #5, same as the one above. You can see the little arms forming on either side of the body inside a pouch/fold of skin. I think this one and possibly a couple others will pop their front legs any day now!

Great fun. I have a love of frogs and used to collect local eggs when I was younger. Sadly the habitat is all covered with houses now.

Aww, cute! I love tadpoles! I finally found a good way to raise the wild ones... 10 tads for every 3 gallons, if they're toad tads. Add some moss from the neighbor's pool/pond, then feed mixed salad lettuce, boiled then frozen to make it soft. Add spring water to replace evaporated water, do weekly smallish water changes, and add a rock so they can climb out of water when they start to get legs. Let them go in a wet part of the yard as soon as that tail is gone, and be very careful handling the newmorphed frogs.

The first ventrimaculata tad got it's right front leg out of the pouch and it looks like the left one isn't far behind.

And the Azureus eggs for 3/13. You can see 3 of the 5 eggs they laid for me the other day.
